For IBM’s 2018 Think conference I led the design and implementation of an immersive video installation highlighting IBM’s cutting-edge research.
Think is IBM’s flagship conference that brings World of Waston, InterConnect, Edge, Amplify and Connect together as a singular event. Within the conference the Think Gallery was an immersive installation that highlighted six research teams and their work across an array of topics, including chip manufacturing, AI, and ecosystem monitoring. This installation served the 40,000 conference attendees as an area to contemplate their role in solving global challenges alongside IBM.
As Design Director for the project I developed the concept for the project and led a team of internal designers, external content producers, and event production agencies through production and installation. To develop the six stories, we interviewed IBM’s researchers, taking a deep dive into their work, and distilling it into new original content. Each of the stories was told through a mix of original footage, stock content, and the researchers’ existing images, as well as original motion graphics and data visualizations. This visual storytelling was formatted for a unique 360 immersive space and combined with narration for a museum-like experience.
